Mr. Atsushi Katayama is Head of the Japan Small Cap team in Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd. (“NAM Tokyo”) and took over the position of lead Portfolio Manager of the Japan Smaller Capitalization Fund, Inc. effective April 1, 2023. Mr. Katayama started his equity investment career in 2006 at NAM Tokyo, where he provided fundamental research on Japanese small to mid-cap stocks. In 2008, Mr. Katayama joined TPG-Axon as an equity analyst covering Retail, Capital Goods, Financials and Internet sectors. Since 2014, Mr. Katayama has worked as a portfolio manager at Point 72 Asia and Dymon Asia Capital before returning to NAM Tokyo in 2021 as a Senior Portfolio Manager. Mr. Katayama earned his MS from Kyoto University in 2001 and his MBA from The University of Chicago in 2006.

Mr. Tanaka joined the Japan Small Cap team at Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd. (“NAM Tokyo”) in April of 2023, taking over the position of Deputy Portfolio Manager for the Japan Smaller Capitalization Fund, Inc. effective April 30, 2024. Mr. Tanaka joined NAM Tokyo in 2003 as an Assistant Fund Manager in the Fixed Income Investment Department, having been appointed Fund Manager for the Department in 2008.  In 2009 Mr. Tanaka joined Nomura Corporate Research and Asset Management Inc. (“NCRAM”) as a Credit Analyst in the High Yield Group.  In 2013 Mr. Tanaka was named Senior Portfolio Manager for the Japan Equity Group Investment Department at NAM Tokyo, followed by his appointment in 2014 through 2023 as Senior Portfolio Manager of the Japan Growth Equity Team.  Mr. Tanaka earned his MSE (Master’s Degree in Engineering) from Waseda University in 2003, followed by an MBA from the University of Southern California in 2008.
